This fake was easy to spot. The patch on the
astronaut's arm was scraped off, which was appearent when viewed
under magnification.
Scott No. C76a exists both as
a color-omitted error (all red absent) and as a patch-omitted variety
(in which pixels of red remain on the yellow fields of the lunar lander).
In order to qualify as the color-omitted error, all traces of red
must be absent, including those on the lunar lander. Check
carefully under high magnification. The patch-omitted variety (although
not a true 100-percent color-omitted error) is collectible, especially
in Europe, where it is prized. It is not difficult to scrape
off the patch, so check for evidence of abrasion under high
magnification.
